What is a 'fresh water' swimming pool?

There’s not really any such thing as a fresh water back-yard pool, because all pools depend on chlorine or other sanitising agent present in the water to sanitise swimming pool water.

Some systems claim to offer “fresh water” through lower salt or chlorine content, or the use of high-risk sanitising agents such as silver and copper (heavy metals) with questionable health implications; it’s a case of buyer beware.

Australian Standards recommend NOT TO USE these metal systems.
