How to Replace the Tracks on Your Dolphin Robot
21 July, 2025

If you own a Dolphin robotic pool cleaner, you know how reliable it is at keeping your pool spotless. However, like any mechanical device, it requires occasional maintenance to continue working at its best.
One common maintenance task is replacing the drive tracks—the rubber treads that help your robot move along the pool floor, climb walls, and navigate obstacles. Over time, these tracks wear down or stretch out, which can cause your Dolphin to lose traction or stop moving altogether.
Luckily, replacing the tracks is a straightforward process you can do yourself. This blog will guide you step-by-step, with detailed instructions and a helpful video to walk you through the process.
When Should You Replace the Tracks?

Here are some signs that your tracks might need replacing:
Your Dolphin moves sluggishly or struggles to climb walls.
It seems to slip or get stuck more often.
You notice visible wear, cracks, or warping on the tracks.
The tracks feel loose or stretched when touched.
The cleaner is making unusual clicking or grinding noises.
If any of these apply, it’s time to give your Dolphin a little TLC.
What You’ll Need

Before getting started, make sure you have the following:
Replacement tracks specific to your Dolphin model (e.g., Dolphin Liberty 400, S 250). The correct, genuine Maytronics-approved tracks can be purchased from your local Elite Dealer.

Step-by-Step: How to Replace the Tracks
1. Power Off and Unplug Everything
Disconnect the Dolphin from its power supply and remove it from the pool.
Dry it off completely to prevent slipping or internal damage.
Place it upside down on a soft towel to protect the casing.
2. Remove the Filter Basket
Most Dolphin robots have a top-loading filter basket.
Lift the top cover, remove the basket, and set it aside.
This gives you access to the internal components for easier handling.
3. Access the Drive System
Depending on your model, you may need to unscrew the bottom cover or side panels to access the wheels and track system.
Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to gently remove the screws and clips. Place the screws somewhere safe—you’ll need them later!
4. Remove the Worn Tracks
Inspect the current tracks. If they’re loose or cracked, carefully slide them off the wheels.
You may need to gently pry the track off one of the drive pulleys with a flathead screwdriver or a plastic tool.
Work around the wheel slowly to avoid damaging the housing or motor assembly.
Tip: There are typically three wheels on each underside of your Dolphin robot which the tracks loop around - the front and rear rollers, and the centre drive pulley.
5. Check the Pulleys and Wheels
While you’ve got the tracks off, give the wheels a quick spin.
Look for any debris, cracks, or stiffness in movement.
If something else looks worn or damaged, it might be time to replace those parts. Your local Maytronics Elite Dealer can help with that.
6. Install the New Tracks
Take your replacement track and loop it around the centre pulley first.
Then stretch it around the front and rear rollers.
It will feel tight at first—that’s normal. The rubber needs to have tension for proper grip in the water.
Tip: Ensure the track teeth align with the grooves in the pulleys. Misalignment can cause poor traction or wear.
7. Rotate and Test the Track by Hand
Turn the wheels manually to make sure the new track is properly seated.
It should rotate smoothly and stay snug around the pulleys.
8. Reassemble Your Dolphin
Replace any internal panels or covers that have been removed.
Reinsert the filter basket and secure the top lid or casing.
Double-check all screws are tightened firmly but not overly tight, to avoid cracking the plastic.
9. Test Your Robot
Reconnect the power supply and lower the Dolphin back into your pool.
Run a quick cycle to ensure the robot moves smoothly and climbs walls without slipping.
If the motion is still sluggish, double-check the track alignment or contact support.
