How do I clean my salt cell?
The white build up on the electrodes in your chlorinator is mineral calcium.
Just like in your kettle or iron, it comes out of the water when water is heated and starts to build up.
Step 1: Turn pool filtration off.
Step 2: Unscrew the electrode from the housing and disconnect the leads if you are able. Place cell in a bucket and fill it almost to the top with tap water.
Step 3: Using gloves and eye protection add pool acid (hydrochloric acid) to the bucket so the dilution is about 9 parts water to 1 part acid – ALWAYS add acid to water and NEVER water to acid.
Step 4: Submerge the electrode plates in the water/acid solution, taking care not to submerge the plastic cap or the pins.
Step 5: Within a few minutes you should begin to see the calcium falling off the plates in large pieces. Leave it in the solution until the plates are clean.
Step 6: Rinse the Cell off with tap water.
Step 7: Screw the electrode back into the housing and the unit is ready to run.
Step 8: Dispose of the water and acid mix by pouring it into the pool and the ensure that you rinse the container.
